Science tells us that dust mites need high humidity to live and multiply in
your bedroom and carpeting. Humidity over 55% is the "red zone." Dust mites
love it! With the humidity under 50%, they slow down, and humidity under 40%
actually kills and eliminates them altogether because it's too dry for them
to survive (except in beds where it's always warm and humid due to your
body. This is why bed encasings are so critical). So you can see why it's
important to keep an accurate check on humidity levels in your home.
Ordinary humidistats can be off by as much as 20% and can give false
readings.
